Boat of Garten Information

Our Boat of Garten information page offers a short guide to the area. Boat of Garten is just one mile away from the cottages, this quaint village of less than 1,000 residents, also known as “The Osprey Village,” is home to a good local shop, Post Office, hotel/bar and restaurants. Here you will also find the Strathspey Railway, Loch Garten, and the RSPB Nature Reserve where ospreys can be viewed. Boat of Garten has bicycle hire shops and many cycle and walking tracks locally offers pathways that connect walkers headed toward or from Buckie. In the winter, the area is also a popular destination for skiing in the nearby mountains. It also has fishing nearby on the River Spey for outdoor enthusiasts.

Boat of Garten is located between Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey as well as situated northeast of Aviemore and nearby to both the Cairngorms National Park and Loch Garten. This makes it an ideal location for visiting the Abernethy Forest National Nature Reserve to observe the abundance of local flora and fauna. Also located in the village is a club with tennis courts and a James Braid designed golf course, which is ranked as one of the top 35 golf courses in Scotland.

Although it is transport close with a railway located just behind the Boat Hotel in the centre of the village and within close proximity to the main A95 to whisk visitors back to their urban abodes, the village is far enough of the main roads to maintain peace, quiet, and a relaxed environment to get away from it all. This is pristine country living at its best
